In September 2011 a team of 7 Rotary volunteers travelled to Kuntabesi to help revitalise 5 classrooms by painting the walls, doors, window frames and shutters. The results are truly amazing as the photos to the right show. Over the next 12 months the remaining stages of the project will be completed and the lives of the children who attend the Disabled & Primary School will be truly life changing for them.
Thanks to The Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Club's of Moruya (Australia) & Dillibazaar (Nepal), this project can now proceed and means that the disabled school and primary school will have access to running water, sanitation and educational supplies.
At present water is accessed from the village water supply and is carried by buckets up a steep dirt track to the school. Now with this funding, the children will be able to access water via a pumping system and holding tanks. There will be taps at both the schools.
The current toilet is some distance from the disabled school and is not suitable for children with disabilities. A new disabled toilet will be constructed which will have better access for the children and carers.
The classroom walls will be rendered and painted. An external door will be fitted to a classroom that a present is without one making the room open to the elements.
Educational material will be provided to the Primary School, such as desks, books and blackboards.
A designated playarea will be constructed at the disabled school which will enhance their rehabilitations, social and mobility skills.
Members of the Rotary Club of Moruya & Narooma and volunteers will be travelling to Nepal in September and visiting Kuntabesi to help with this project along with members of the Rotary Club of Dillibazaar.
This wonderful project is possible because of The Rotary Foundation's Matching Grant scheme.
