Frequently Asked Questions

What will I receive when I sponsor a child?

A link to a password protected web site with photo and details of your sponsored child, including information about their schooling and their likes and dislikes and a short video. Quarterly photo and video updates posted to the web site which you can review.

How long do I sponsor a child?

Ideally, sponsoring a child goes on until the child is 18 years old, possibly longer if you wish. Our aim is to keep you well informed about how your donation is spent so that you will want to continue your sponsorship and support these wonderful children until they are old enough to support themselves.

When you sponsor a child, you are not locked into a contract of any kind. We understand that your financial circumstances may change over time and if you are unable to make your regular contributions, we can assist you with a range of options.

Sometimes, changes in a child’s circumstances may bring an end to the sponsorship, such as when the child’s parent’s circumstances change and they are able to take back the child. In such instances, we will find out why and explain the situation to you. We will also help find another child for you to sponsor.

Am I the only sponsor for my sponsored child?

No, each sponsored child can have up to three sponsors, because the cost of supporting each child is around $3 per day. Some sponsors have chosen to give $3 a day for their child and so these children will have just one sponsor.

Can I sponsor more than one child?

You can sponsor as many children as you wish. Many of our sponsors choose to sponsor more than one child.  Many sponsors select a child the same age as their own child. This gives their child an opportunity to learn about the life of a child growing up in a developing country.

What if I cannot make sponsorship payments?

If your financial circumstances change and you are unable to make your sponsorship payments temporarily or permanently, please contact us as soon as possible.

How do I update my contact details?

Update your personal details such as postal address, email address and contact number by emailing president@dharmik.org. Please use the web site to update your subscriber details for the emails.

Does my money get spent on my child only?

No. We see your child as a member of a group and so your money is pooled together with funds from all sponsors and we spend it where it is most needed. For example if a child is sick, that child will have more money spent on medical costs than a well child.

Does my money get spent on administration?

In Australia no.  In Nepal we have local Nepali people who staff the homes and run the office and deliver the services to your sponsored child. These people are paid reasonable local wages and we also need to cover reasonable local expenses in running an organisation.

Can you tell me how my money is spent?

We are transparent about our expenditure in Nepal and you can see the detailed reports if you wish. Thank you for asking about sending letters and gifts to sponsored children in Nepal.
